MURRAY COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities have released the names of the seven people who were killed when an EF-2 tornado touched over the weekend – and three of them are from the same family.
Police have identified the victims as:
- Rebecca Beck, 59
- Deanna Zambrano, 20
- Laquita Thomas, 63
- Richard Irwin, 50
- Wilber Brookshire, 79
- Myrtle Brookshire, 75
- Wilber Brookshire Jr., 48
Officials estimate that 75 homes were destroyed where the storm touched down.
Murray County Coroner Jason Gibson said the victims lived in at least three different mobile homes.
Gov. Brian Kemp toured the neighborhood that first responders called a “war zone” on Monday. Kemp met with the victims, their families and volunteers. He said it looked like a bomb went off in the neighborhood.
