ATLANTA — The family of a toddler injured by a flash-bang grenade appeared before members of the FBI and Georgia Bureau of Investigation Tuesday to tell their side of the story.
The Phonesvanah family met with investigators to tell them about the night their son was injured.
Their son, 19-month-old Bhonkhan Phonesvah is still in a medically induced coma.
He was injured when Habersham Special Response Team members threw a flash-bang grenade into his playpen as he slept, authorities said.
The device severely injured the toddler and burned his face.
Habersham Sheriff Joey Terrell said the incident was an accident, but the family believes the drug raid should have never happened that day.
“We love our children never saw drugs or saw drug activity at that home,” the toddler’s mother, Alecia Phonesvanah said.
Family members and their lawyers promised to keep fighting while their young “Boo-Boo” fights for his life at Grady Hospital.
He is set to undergo another surgery on Wednesday.
Authorities conducted the raid at the home in Habersham County to find 30-year-old Wanis Tone-Tay-Vah Thometheva.
Officials said that because he had a previous weapons charge, investigators used a no-knock warrant to enter the home.
The suspect was not in the house when the special response team entered the Habersham County house, investigators said.
Investigators arrested him at home in Cornelia shortly after the raid, officials said.
