COBB COUNTY, Ga.,None — Cobb County School Police arrested two Daniell Middle School students Wednesday on cocaine possession charges. School District officials declined to release many more details about the arrests because it involves students.
News of the arrests filtered down to Daniell Middle School parents Thursday morning. After Kathy Danos heard about the news, she rushed to the school to check out her seventh-grade son.
"I was a little upset," said Danos. "OK, I was a whole lot upset if I'm sitting here picking up a kid from school."
Her son, Matthew Danos, only heard about it when his mother told him.
"I was a little nervous at first, because knowing it happened in our school -- don't know what to think,” Matthew said.
In his school website blog, Principal David Nelson explained the incident to parents.
"The incident is an unfortunate reminder to us all that drugs are still a prevalent factor in our society and our schools," wrote Nelson. "We all want and expect our schools to be a safe and drug free environment for our kids. Daniell Middle School will not settle for anything less. We will continue to be diligent in ensuring our children's safety and well-being."
School District officials said the case remains under investigation.
