DeKalb County Has 3 More 'Slums'

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County officially has three more "slums."

County commissioners designated three properties as slums, which will allow the county to tap $36 million in low-interest federal redevelopment bonds.

One site is next to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, one is on Candler Road and the Recorders Court on Camp Circle are all considered slums.

Commissioner Kathie Gannon told Channel 2 Action News that no one lives on the sites.

Under Georgia law, any place that is considered a slum, deteriorating or a hazard that impairs county growth can be considered a redevelopment area to stimulus bonds, county officials said.
