ATLANTA — Convicted killer and former DeKalb County Sheriff Sidney Dorsey testified in a Fulton County court in another murder case Thursday.
The defense called Dorsey in the case against Freddie Lewis. Lewis has been indicted in a 1991 murder. Dorsey may have worked on the case as an Atlanta police detective.
In 2002, a jury convicted Dorsey in the shooting death of Sheriff-elect Derwin Brown. Dorsey denied his role until 2007 when he admitted ordering the hit. But Dorsey said he tried to call it off.
A federal jury found the accused triggerman, Melvin Walker, in 2005 guilty of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.
When asked whether the fact he's serving a life sentence has any bearing on if he's telling the truth, Dorsey said, "I'm a Christian. I tell the truth."
Lewis has maintained his innocence.
