APD: 3 Shot After 'Screen On The Green' Event

ATLANTA — Atlanta police say they now have three gunshot victims after a fight broke out in midtown Thursday night, a couple of blocks from Piedmont Park.

Police say some of the people involved in the shooting came from the park's "Screen on the Green" event.

"The crowd was walking, dispersing from the area. An extra job unit heard the shot that was fired, a couple shots fired," Sgt. Bob Albertini with the Atlanta Police Department says.

Shortly after the shooting, Channel 2 Action News captured video of a man police are calling a person of interest in the case.

Police say the person of interest had a gun on him, but they do not know if it was the weapon in the shooting.

Last year a melee broke out after unexpectedly large crowds swarmed out of Piedmont Park after one of the movie nights.

This year, the Piedmont Park Conservancy says there is more security and no incidents have happened in the park or at the events.

"We had tight security tonight. This happened down the street from screen on the green. This was a couple blocks from there," Albertini says.

A spokeswoman for the park conservancy, which puts on the movies, says security in the park works and the incidents have not happen in the park.
