Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman wins 2020 Hank Aaron Award

Freddie Freeman already won the National League MVP trophy last month and on Tuesday, he added another award to his impressive 2020 collection.

Freeman won the 2020 National League Hank Aaron Award, which is given to the most outstanding offensive player. He joins Andruw Jones as the only Braves to win the award since its inception in 1999.

“Winning the Hank Aaron Award is extra special for me since I get to put on the same uniform that he wore throughout his illustrious career,” Freeman said. “An incredible baseball player and an even better man. I am honored and humbled to win this award. Thank you!”

American League MVP Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox took home the American League Hank Aaron Award. Aaron offered his congratulations to both players on social media and spoke to Freeman along with his son Charlie Freeman.

The 2020 season will be one for the record books for Freeman. In November, he became the first Braves player since Chipper Jones to win the NL MVP award.

During the regular season, Freeman finished in the top four of nearly every offensive category, including runs, hits, RBIs, doubles and walks. The first baseman posted a 18-game hitting streak from Aug. 14 until Sept. 4 and a 12-game hitting streak from Sept. 6 through Sept. 18.

In addition to the MVP and Hank Aaron Award, Freeman was also named the Baseball America and Baseball Digest MLB Player of the Year. He also won his second consecutive Silver Slugger award.
