Wheelchair Bound Girl Found Submerged In Pool

FT. WALTON Beach, Fla., — A Peachtree City girl died after she and her wheelchair were found submerged in a pool, police said.

Alexis Holly Butler, 10, was found by her 13-year-old sister Saturday in a pool at her grandparents' home in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.

Butler's father tried to resuscitate her until EMS crews arrived at the home, Ft. Walton Beach Public Information Officer Cam Johnson said. Butler was rushed to a local hospital where she later died.

Butler was confined to the wheelchair due to cerebral palsy, Johnson said.

The drowning appears to be an accident as there is no evidence indicating foul play is involved, Johnson said.

"You hate to see such a tragic accident happen, especially over the holiday weekend when families come together," said Johnson. "This is just another reminder to parents to keep a close eye on children when they are near water."

Police said they will continue to investigate this incident.
