UGA Football Player Kicked Off Team After DUI

ATHENS, Ga.,None — A University of Georgia football player jailed on drunken driving charges has now been kicked off the team, according to the school's athletics communications department.

Freshman linebacker Demetre Baker was charged with improper driving and underage possession of alcohol early Sunday morning, Athens-Clarke County police said.

UGA head football Coach Mark Richt said Baker was fully aware of the consequences of his actions. It also doesn't help that he is the tenth player on the team to be arrested this year.

Baker, 19, did not join the team for Saturday's game against Mississippi State, according to UGA athletics spokesman Claude Felton.

After his arrest, he was held at the Clarke County Jail on $2, 5000 bond, according to the Athens-Clarke County Sheriff's Office.
