McDonald’s McRib sandwich will be back in restaurants on Wednesday, a bright spot for some, in a year that has been short on bright spots.
The return of the sandwich will mark the first time it will be available nationwide since 2012.
“The McRib has been a beloved menu item at McDonald’s since its inception nearly 40 years ago,” said Linda VanGosen, McDonald’s vice president of menu innovation. “To our customers, it’s become more than a delicious, saucy moment … it’s a season, and it’s taking the internet by storm.”
Adding to the anticipation, McDonald’s is giving away 10,000 free sandwiches in its “Shave 4 McRib Sweepstakes.”
“Beard or no beard, prepare for the McRib with a shave — or even a facial mask — because anyone can participate, from your brother to your mother, sister-in-law or cousin’s roommate,” McDonald’s said in a news release posted on Monday.
The promotion is based on McDonald’s claim that the barbecue treat and a person’s beard are not a good mix.
While social media is buzzing about the return of the sandwich, the person who runs McDonald’s Twitter feed suggested back in October that maybe we should all step back and take a minute to look at the big picture — that picture being how the person running the McDonald’s Twitter feed is doing.
it’s always “when is the McRib coming back” and never “how are you doing person who runs the McDonald’s account”

Apparently, the problem of being taken for granted is not limited to McDonald’s Twitter representative. It’s rampant in corporate feeds.
The Facebook person:
Honestly, same. No, idk when dark mode is coming out. 😭 Also, I'm fine thanks.

The Pantene person:
Not us crying at the accuracy. It's always "why'd you get rid of that shampoo pump" not "doing anything fun this weekend?"

P.S. We're ready for Ronald to drop his haircare routine
The HBO person:
I’ve never felt more seen. Like, I don’t know when House of the Dragon is premiering.

Unrelated: When is the McRib coming back?
The IBM person
We feel you… it’s always “when will IBM make computers again” never “how’s it going social media person”

The plight of social media specialists aside, fans of the sandwich are expressing their excitement in advance of the McRib’s return:
Me: This re-commitment to fitness and getting in shape feels great.

Also me: The McRib is back Dec. 2.
Saving my black Friday spending money for @McDonalds and the return of the McRib. I'm comfortable with my decision.
