COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A garbage truck driver adopted an abandoned puppy he found Wednesday in a backpack along his route.
Driver Aaron Kinsel found a 10-week-old female boxer-mix inside a backpack discarded in the middle of the road, trash company Rumpke Waste and Recycling said.
Kinsel was on his route when he noticed the bag was moving. He got out from his truck, opened the bag and found the puppy inside.
“I felt like I was meant to find her,” Kinsel said.

He named her “Tipper,” which is a device on the trucks that helps the drivers pick up trash cans. She was taken to a veterinarian for evaluation. She was suffering from dehydration and a broken leg.
Police are investigating.
“For their safety, as well as for the safety of our customers, Rumpke drivers are trained to remain observant,” Kendra Catherman, a safety manager for the trash hauler, said in a statement. “We do our best to take care of our communities and always do the right thing. We are very proud of Aaron and delighted to make Tipper an honorary member of our Rumpke team.”
