Police confirmed to our sister station WPXI that they had responded to the call of a noise complaint.

Pittsburgh police said that they had asked the person who opened the door where the homeowner was. A second person came to the door. Police said they had asked them to turn down the music and they complied.

Police said that a party was happening on the home’s second floor but was out of their view. WPXI reported that as many as 200 people were at the party and many were underage.

Police said they told the person at the door that if they were called to the house again, they would shut the party down. No other noise complaints were filed Sunday night, police told WPXI.

About an hour and a half later, around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, police said that 10 people were shot and two were killed. Five people were hurt while trying to escape the shooting, WPXI reported.

Police said that as many as 50 shots were fired inside the house and 50 more were fired outside.

Pittsburgh Police Chief Scott Schubert said there were multiple shooters and that police recovered different types of shell casings, indicating to them that multiple people opened fire.

“I mean it was rapid fire. It wasn’t just a little bit of fire. [It was like], ‘Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang,’” Leonard Verdetto told WPXI. Verdetto watched the shooting from his home across the street.

No one has been arrested.

Police have interviewed the person responsible for throwing the party. His attorney said his client is cooperating with the investigation and that he did not have a weapon, nor did he fire any shots, WPXI reported.

Airbnb released a statement to WPXI saying that the person who booked the rental has been banned for life from the platform and that the company “will be considering all legal options to hold this person accountable.”

The company said the party was not authorized and was held without the knowledge or consent of the host, who had stipulated in the agreement: “No parties allowed, any evidence of parties will result in a $500 fee” and “please respect the noise curfew 10pm-7am.”
