ROSWELL, Ga. — Roswell police arrested 49-year-old Martha Gabi Ardilla-Ramirez on charges of practicing dentistry without a license and possession of dangerous drugs.
The Columbian native was taken into custody Wednesday. Lt. James McGee of the Roswell Police Department told Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Regan that detectives began an undercover investigation six months ago after receiving complaints of a lot of traffic going in and out of the house at 650 Lake Forest Court.
"She was doing all kinds of procedures-- fillings, crowns, dentures, extractions. We estimate she had 50 to 100 patients" said McGee.
McGee showed Regan pictures of a lounge chair, dental instruments and other equipment found inside the home. McGee said some of the instruments appeared unsanitary and that Lysol disinfectant was used as part of the cleaning process. "It was unhealthy," said McGee.
Police said they also found pain killing drugs used for dental procedures. Lt McGee said the woman's patients primarily were people who did not have dental insurance and could not afford treatment from a licensed professional dentist.
Regan went to the home to see if anyone was available to comment on the arrest of Ardilla-Ramirez, but no one answered the door.
Ardilla-Ramirez remains jailed without bond. Police are attempting to contact some of her former patients.
