Police Searching For Men Behind Walmart

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Police in Douglas County searched for four men who scuffled with a Douglasville police officer Wednesday morning.

Police Chief Chris Womack said no shots were fired, but two of the men were armed and one scuffled with one of his officers.

Witnesses told Channel 2 Action News reporter Ross Cavitt that four men pulled up to a gas station on Thornton Road in an older model Chevrolet and acted suspiciously. Police were called to the scene to investigate.

Police arrived and pulled over the vehicle in front of the Hilton Garden Inn, which is located near a Walmart store, witnesses said. The scuffle with the officer took place in the hotel parking lot. The men fled on foot.

Officials seized a gun and had one man in custody, but continued to search for the other three. Police said at least one man is likely armed.

News Chopper 2 flew over the scene at about 10:30 a.m. and police could be seen looking in the woods behind the Walmart.
