ATLANTA — Atlanta police said people scrambled for cover as gunfire erupted in a nightclub parking lot early Friday morning.
Police said a stray bullet hit a woman when gunmen opened fire into a crowd of people outside the Figure Eight nightclub in southwest Atlanta.
Witnesses told Channel 2 Action News reporter Darryn Moore that they were celebrating a birthday inside the club when a group of men began arguing and a fist fight broke out.
A security guard threw the men out.

A detective said one group waited in the parking lot with guns drawn. As people began leaving the club, they noticed their intended target among the crowd and began shooting, police said.
Officials said at least 17 rounds were fired. Police said there were so many rounds, they were not yet sure how many guns were used.
A stray bullet hit an innocent woman in the shoulder. She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and detectives said she is in stable condition.
Police said the gunmen got away.
The investigation continues.
