Pizza Hut Employee Shot During Carjacking

UNION CITY, Ga. — Police in Union City said officers are looking for a group of carjackers who shot a restaurant employee and pistol-whipped his friend.

The shooting happened at the Pizza Hut on Jonesboro Road in Union City just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

Officers said the victim was walking out the back door of the restaurant and heading to his car when he was approached by a group of men.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Darryn Moore spoke with the victim's mother.

"It's very devastating that someone would do this just to take someone's car," said mother Chelonda McKenzie.

The carjackers shot the victim in the leg and then took his silver 2007 Dodge Magnum.

Detectives said they found shell casing and gathered other evidence. Police said they are working with both victims to get a description of the carjackers.

The victim was listed in stable condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.
