New Gas Program Could Cut $1 Per Gallon

ATLANTA — Gasoline prices are starting to fall from the $4 mark, but Kroger is launching a new program that could bring gas back under $3 for some shoppers.

The retail grocery chain announced Thursday it's expanding its Fuel Rewards Program starting Sunday May 22. The news came as AAA reported the average price of unleaded gas in metro Atlanta was at $3.93 per gallon.

Kroger customers will be able to accumulate one point for every dollar spent. For every 100 points accumulated, up to 1,000 points, customers will be rewarded with 10 cents off per gallon of fuel. That means a customer could potentially get $1 off a gallon of gas at a Kroger Fuel Center.

"With many people finalizing their Memorial Day and summer travel plans, we hope Kroger's enhanced rewards program will help provide incredible savings when it's most needed," said Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Kroger's Atlanta Division.

Kroger customers can also accumulate 50 points for each prescription filled and 100 points for every $50 in gift cards purchased.

The total points earned by each customer will be printed on their receipts or on Kroger.com.

Kroger customers can also continue to use their points at participating Shell gas stations.
