Neighbors Say Foreclosed Home Brings Cat Invasion

DACULA, Ga. — Residents of a Dacula neighborhood complain that a foreclosed home is being overrun by cats.

Residents living along Autumn Glen Way said they have seen 10 to 30 cats wandering in and out of the vacant home, and into the neighborhood.

"The smell ... the cats getting into everything, getting into our cars and garage and spraying, stinking," next-door neighbor Belinda Creath told Channel 2's Manuel Bojorquez.

The former homeowner was evicted a few weeks ago, after the bank foreclosed on the home, authorities said.

Neighbors said the couple who lived there owned about 15 cats, but they couldn't take them to their new home. They said the couple continues to return to the home to feed the cats, but not to clean up.

"The inside is disgusting," said Creath.

Neighbor William Comboy said there have been up to 30 cats in the home at one time.

"Just roaming around the neighborhood, in our back yard, on top of our cars in the morning," he added.

He said they've contacted Animal Control, but officers can only pick up cats which have been captured and are in crates.

County officials said code enforcement officers will inspect the property to review the situation and may force the bank that currently owns the house to deal with the cat problem.
