NEW JERSEY — With cold weather across the north and south with frigid temperatures, a dog was found tossed aside in the trash.
New Jersey police say the two-year-old Bichon Frise, who they nicknamed Scotty, abandoned inside of a dumpster, CNN reports.

Maintenance workers saw the dog and called the police. The pup is now being safely cared for at an animal shelter.
Police were able to piece together the events leading up to Scotty being left inside the dumpster. After composing a timeline, they were able to identify the person accused of discarding the dog.
The 26-year-old suspect is charged with animal neglect and animal abandonment.

As for Scotty, officials say he will be available for adoption soon.
