FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A man charged in a MARTA stabbing received a lesser charge and learned the conditions of his bond in a Thursday hearing in Fulton County court.
Contravious Burson is accused in a stabbing at the North Avenue MARTA station that happened early Wednesday morning. MARTA police had said a man stabbed another man in in the stomach with a pocket knife at about 4:50 a.m. after an argument.
Police said the suspect fled the scene but was arrested shortly after.
Burson was originally charged with aggravated assault and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony.
On Thursday, the aggravated assault charge was reduced to aggravated battery, Fulton County sheriff's spokeswoman Tracy Flanagan said.
Flanagan said Burson’s bond is set at $40,000, $25,000 for the aggravated battery charge, and $15,000 for the knife possession charge.
Judge Jessy Lall ordered the conditions of Burson’s bond, which included that he must adhere to a 24-hour curfew. He is also prohibited from using MARTA, Flanagan said.
A preliminary hearing for Burson is scheduled for Nov. 13 at 9:30 a.m., Flanagan said.
