UGA unveils new state-of-the-art practice facility

University of Georgia’s Athletic Board approved a plan for a new state-of-the-art indoor practice facility Monday.

ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia Bulldogs will soon have a new place to practice out of the sweltering Georgia heat and any other weather that comes their way.

University of Georgia's Athletic Board approved a plan for a new state-of-the-art indoor practice facility Monday.

This new indoor facility will be connected to Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall next to the Woodruff Practice Fields. It will be 140 feet long, 80 yards wide and 76 feet high.

“With the addition of this facility, weather will no longer have an impact on game preparation,” the school said in a release Monday.

UGA Athletics shared these renderings of the new facility on Twitter.

“From a functional and aesthetic standpoint, this facility will be transformational for our entire athletic program,” Athletic Director Greg McGarity said about the facility.

The approval comes just after recent renovations on Sanford Stadium.

The $30 million project will be paid for by donors and the athletic department reserve funds.

The Athletic Department says this is just the first component of the Georgia Excellence Campaign, which will be unveiled soon.

Construction on the new facility will begin after the 2015 football season.
