GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A Hall County teen is behind bars on charges she killed her infant daughter.
It took investigators more than two weeks to build their case against 17-year-old Haley Clark. Her 9-day-old stopped breathing in a quiet Gainesville neighborhood. Deputies began investigating after a 911 call from Clark's brother.
"She's not breathing, and she has no heartbeat or anything," he told the dispatcher.
Emergency crews rushed to the home and found the baby, Olivia, unresponsive. She was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman Stephen Wilbanks said the child's mother lived at the home with several relatives.
"She lived in the residence with her father and her brother. The father of the baby is apparently not in the picture," Wilbanks told Channel 2's Rachel Stockman.
According to a search warrant obtained by Channel 2, investigators believe Clark put her hands over the infant's nose and mouth to kill her.
Neighbors along Hopewell Lane were shocked by the allegations.
"It's just sad. I don't know if she had the support from the family or what made her do that," Carmen Deltoro said.
Stockman went to Clark's home for an interview but her father declined to comment.
Clark is being held at the Hall County Jail. She has a court appearance later this month.
