Taxi passenger critically injured in drive-by shooting

ATLANTA — A drive-by shooting leaves a passenger riding in taxi critically injured near Interstate-20 in Atlanta.

Police told Channel 2's Darryn Moore the man was sitting in the backseat of a taxi on Windsor Street near the I-20 ramp when a black Infiniti pulled up next to the cab and opened fire.

The car drove off and was last seen heading east on I-20.

Authorities say the man was shot in the side and investigators are hoping he will recover to the point where they find out why he was a target.

Prior to the shooting, the cab driver told police he picked the passenger up at Magic City, which is an adult entertainment club.

Investigators are working to see if the victim had a some type of confrontation with the gunman inside or outside the club, which may have triggered the shooting.

Investigators said the passenger did have a large amount of cash in his pockets, but they don't believe the gunman was after his money.

The man was listed in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital.

Police are continuing to investigate.
