DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County officials say a suspicious package in the Brookhaven Shopping Center on Peachtree Road turned out to be trash.
DeKalb County police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said a runner spotted a black backpack near a dumpster between two buildings inside the complex.
Parish said she was unclear on what made the package suspicious, but a bomb squad evacuated several businesses as a precaution. The scene was cleared shortly before 11 a.m. Monday.
Police told Channel 2's Erica Byfield the bag was marked "crock pot." They said a crock pot was found inside, along with the trash.
Detectives used surveillance footage to determine who left the package. Police believe a couple moving out of an apartment complex over the weekend dropped the trash.
