Officials realized they had an issue on May 2 and quickly called in an exterminator to inspect and treat the building.

Channel 2's Erica Byfield learned a Clayton County Health Department Inspector gave the school a notice of violation after finding evidence of rats in the kitchen.

Students told Byfield they have rodents in their classrooms.

Gavalas confirmed a teacher was forced to usher some students to another classroom after a rat got into the her classroom.

"Everybody is scared to leave their bag around and what if like rats crawls out from somewhere? It's scary," Jonesboro High Senior Akina Thomas said.

A student sent a photo of a possible rodent under a table in the school. Jonesboro High leaders told Channel 2 Action News they could not confirm anything in the picture.

Gavalas told Byfield the Health Department re-inspected the kitchen May 9 and did not find any evidence of rats.
