Woman fears apartment ceiling will collapse for third time

UNION CITY, Ga. — A south Fulton County mother said she fears for her children because her apartment ceiling won't stop collapsing.

Kencora Wright let Channel 2’s Matt Johnson inside her Union City apartment complex to show us him why she's not satisfied with the temporary fix that could lead to her ceiling collapsing again.

“It's collapsed already twice,” Wright told Johnson.

Wright took cellphone video that shows the second time the ceiling collapsed in her apartment over the past 30 days.

There's water damage to her floor and she's worried mildew is building up from when the ceiling leaked

“You expect for your rent to be paid on time, you expect for your apartment to be functional,” Wright told Johnson Friday evening.

A week ago she said a maintenance crew at the Parks at Morella Apartments put up a temporary fix but the bathroom ceiling is already starting to peel.

“They're not fixing the problem. They just come in and plaster it back up and letting it build up again and it caves right back in,” Wright said.

The mother-of-two is worried it will cave in again for a third time without a more permanent solution.

There's water damage to her floor and she's worried mildew is building up from when the ceiling leaked during rainy weather.

“My floor is black. It pours in here,” Wright told Johnson.

She has set up gnat traps around her apartment because she said the bug problem is getting worse.

“As a mother, your kids are eating and gnats are flying in their food. What can you explain to them?” Wright said.

Johnson spoke to a property manager who said there's an issue with an air conditioning unit that is leaking water. She told Johnson they hope to have a fix for Wright by Tuesday.

But Wright said no one could give her an answer on when the ceiling would be fixed until Channel 2 Action News got involved.

“It’s no sense of urgency. They don’t care,” Wright said.

The property manager took Johnson’s card and said she will follow up with him when the issue was resolved.
