Good Samaritan shot after this man asked for help

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for the man who shot a good Samaritan after asking him for help.

Friends of the victim say he was trying to help out the suspect and give him a ride when he was shot three times.

Channel 2's Audrey Washington spoke with a Kroger security guard, who also spoke with the suspect before the shooting.

The security guard tells Washington he had a bad feeling about the suspect, but before he could say anything that suspect had already gotten into the victim's car.

"The people here saw him getting in the car,” the security guard said.

The security guard did not want to give his name, but he says he's friend with the victim, Leslie Arnold.

Fulton County police tell Washington it was after 7 a.m. Monday when Arnold gave the suspect a ride as he left a Kroger on Old National Highway.

Detectives tell Washington during the ride there was a struggle for the car keys. That's when police say the suspect shot Arnold three times and then took off.

According to the police report Washington obtained, Arnold managed to drive back to his home.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition.

"Well, I think it's sad for someone to do that,” shopper Willie Arnold said.

The security guard says he noticed the suspect earlier that morning and asked why he was hanging around. He says the suspect said he was waiting for his ride, but the guard tells Washington he noticed the suspect, trying to get other drivers to stop and talk.

The security guard says he never saw Arnold pick up the suspect.

He now regrets not warning his friend about the stranger earlier.

"I was devastated. Matter of fact, it jerked some tears out of me,” the security guard said.

Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to call Fulton County Police.
