'Slingshot Bandits' cost smoke shop owner thousands

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — Police say thieves used a slingshot to break into a smoke shop in Coweta County.

Surveillance video shows a man launching marbles at the Vapor Fog store in Sharpsburg early Tuesday morning.

"I saw a whole bunch of 3/4 inch marbles on the ground with stainless steel bearings on the ground," said Bobby Crowdis, with the Coweta County sheriff's office.

The window shatters after 30 minutes and he walks up and hammers out the glass.

"It just doesn't make sense why somebody would do that at all," store owner Joseph Neese said.

The man was inside the store for less than five minutes while his partner was the lookout man outside.

Neese says the burglar took high-end vaporizers.

"They go into the unlocked cabinets, pick and choose different vape mods that range from $100 to $150," he said.

The owner said he lost $2,500 worth of products.

"They took food out of my mouth. This is how I feed myself and my family," Neese said.

Investigators believe the burglars are teenagers from the area, who will possibly sell the stolen items online for half the price.

In addition to the lost inventory, Neese believes he's out $4,000 total with the damage to windows and doors.
