SCAD expanding film program to meet Georgia movie boom

ATLANTA — The movie industry has brought more than $6 billion to Georgia in the last year, and now the Savanah College of Art and Design is expanding to meet the need for film professionals.

The school is adding a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film and television program at the Atlanta campus starting in September.

SCAD Atlanta students who pursue the B.F.A. in film and television will study and work in the SCAD Digital Media Center, a 60,000-square-foot film, television and digital media hub in midtown Atlanta.

The center features motion capture and green screen production capabilities, sound recording and mixing suites, editing rooms, screening spaces, and set and prop fabrication studios enable a wide spectrum of work to be created in a fully-equipped studio environment, according to school officials.

SCAD Atlanta also offers state-of-the-art stage and screen venues including SCADshow, the 13,300-square-foot theater complex on 14th Street.

The addition of the new degree program follows the introduction of the film and television Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts programs last year at SCAD Atlanta.
