Calls to pediatrician's office directed to porn hotline

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga — Johns Creek police are trying to figure out who played an embarrassing prank on a pediatrician’s office.

Police told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik someone diverted the after-hours answering service line for Meadow Pediatrics to a pornographic hotline a few weeks ago.  It came to light when someone alerted the doctor.

“The proper passcode was used when this request for the change in account was made,” said Lt. Chris Byers with the Johns Creek Police Department. “Subpoenas have been served to find out where the IP address comes back to, who it comes back to.”

Byers said nobody at the practice gave permission for the phone line to be diverted, but police were trying to determine whether someone hacked it from the outside or if someone on the inside made the change.

“Was this a mistake?  Was this some mix-up within the company?   All of that’s gonna have to be looked into,” he said. “If it is something that was done over the computer, if this was a hacking type case, I guess the person responsible could be looking at computer trespass charges.”

Lbonee Bailey’s son is a patient at the practice.  She told Petchenik she was shocked to hear of the prank.

“It’s absurd,” she said. “It’s crazy.”

Jeannine Eggleston works at a neighboring dental practice and said she, too, was surprised someone would pull this kind of prank.

“That would be horrifying for anybody,” she said.  “How embarrassing is that?”
