GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County police are hunting for a bank robber who was wearing a superhero mask.
Witnesses say he had a Spiderman mask over his face and what appeared to be a bomb strapped to his body. He walked in holding what tellers say looked like a detonator in his hand.
He walked out with more than $7,000.
Fidelity bank customer Juan Carlos Hernandez spared no words for the man police say burst into the Berkley Lake branch Monday afternoon. Hernandez says everyone was on high alert just three days after the terrorist attacks in Paris.
“He's just taking advantage of the people that he scared (with) the bombs and all the stuff,” Hernandez said.
Bank employees say the man walked into the bank on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard just after 1 p.m.
“As he walked into the bank he yelled, ‘Everybody hands up’ and proceeded to steal over $7,000 in cash,” Gwinnett County police Cpl. Deon Washington.
In his hands, investigators say he carried at least two bags and what appeared to be a detonator for the apparatus strapped to his stomach. With cash in hand, the man forced the employees to the back of the bank before running out the back door and down South Berkley Lake Road.
