• Police investigate deadly shooting at Sandy Springs hotel

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. - Sandy Springs police tell Channel 2 Action News they are investigating a deadly shooting in the 800 block of Hammond Drive.

Officers said a 20-year-old man was shot behind the Sheraton hotel on Hammond Drive at about 4 p.m.

Investigators said the victim was shot in the area called The Hub on Barfield Road. That man then ended up in the parking lot behind the Sheraton hotel.

Police said the man had been shot multiple times and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for his injuries.

Witnesses told police that the suspect then ran to a nearby extended stay next door, where a number of art students were staying.

Police said they feel the area is safe despite not having suspect in custody.

“The fact that we have it contained and no witnesses said they saw someone running from this location across Barfield, it's probably contained right now," said Capt. Steve Rose with the Sandy Springs Police Department.

Police are currently searching the area for the suspect and the entire area has been cordoned off.

The victim died later Thursday evening.
