People outraged over rope hanging at off campus apartment near KSU

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — Residents of a student apartment complex near Kennesaw State University are upset over a rope hanging over a balcony.

"It's discouraging, disappointing but I'm not surprised," Kennesaw State student Syndey Palmer told Channel 2's Carl Willis.

Palmer said the rope made her feel uneasy and she wasn't alone. Many are calling this a racially motivated display.

"I put it on social media to raise awareness, because a noose in Kennessaw is not that far-fetched," she said.

Channel 2 Action News fielded numerous calls and emails from viewers about the story that was now spreading through social media. So, we paid a visit to the off-campus student housing complex.

In the process, we made contact with KSU student Casey Bell who told Willis that's his rope but claims it's not how it may seem.

"We just keep that there for easy access to bring groceries up and down. I'm not trying to cause any racist, any kind of nothing like that. We're not racist at all," he said.

Still, the management staff at the Blake responded saying their top priority is providing a welcoming and inclusive environment.

They wrote in a statement: "...the management team took immediate action to address the situation with the resident. The Blake management can confirm that the items have been removed."
