Parking prices rise as spots limited at Georgia Dome

ATLANTA, Ga. — City leaders have encouraged football fans to take MARTA, after construction on the new Atlanta Falcons stadium has left the Georgia Dome with 1,300 fewer parking spaces.

With the new stadium going up just south of the Dome, there was more traffic than usual in the area.

Private lots filled up faster and were more expensive than years past.

There's just not as much space for them this season.

Some fans grabbed their spot at 1 a.m. Sunday, after scoping out the parking early because of construction.

"We noticed there people down here already. So we went home, got toted up and said we got to go," they said.

The old orange, purple, brown and silver lots are now replaced by construction equipment working on the Falcon's new stadium.

All official parking was sold out, but some spaces in private lots were open, but at a price.

Spots closest to the stadium were going for $50, about $20 more than they were charging in the same lot last season.

Fans should get used to the changes, which will be in effect until the new stadium is ready in 2017.
