NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Sandy Springs police are crediting a quick-thinking mother for helping a toddler wandering near an apartment complex.
Nadia Shojaie told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik she was sitting outside of her Winding River Village Apartment March 6 when she noticed the little boy.
"I looked over and saw a little kid in his diapers," she said. "Just out there walking around in circles."
A mother herself, Shojaie said she ran over to the boy to check on him.
"I asked him where mommy was. He said, 'gone.' (I asked) where daddy was. He said 'gone,'" she said.
Shoajie told Petchenik she was worried about the boy's well-being.
"The main road is right over there so I was scared he could have gotten kidnapped, could have gotten hit by a car," she said. "Wanted to make sure he was OK."
Shojaie called Sandy Springs police, who began knocking on doors to find the boy's home.

"The mother of the child was at work at the time, left the child in the care of this 23-year-old, who in turn said he had to leave and left the child in the care of the 17-year-old," said Sgt. Ron Momon.
Momon said police cited the teen and the other man, Sanchez Binns, for child neglect.
"You just have to be mindful of who you leave your children with and make sure they're very responsible and these situations don't happen," he said.
Petchenik tracked down Binns at the apartment listed on the police report, but he wasn't interested in talking.
"There's no side (of the story)," he said. "It was an accident. There's nothing to talk about."
