HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Henry County Public Schools gave Channel 2 Action News a look at a new campus dedicated to helping troubled students find their way.
Superintendent Rodny Bowler said the goal of the newly refurbished Excel Academy campus is to keep students on the right track and in school.
Many students were referred to the campus after discipline issues or trouble in class. Only half of the school day will be regular class time.
"Smaller class sizes so you'll get a lot more support, but the rest of your time is working in counseling groups, anger management groups. Getting those social service needs fulfilled," Bowler said.
Teachers at other Henry County schools are also taking a unique approach to fit learning to their students.
Six schools in the district will use personalized learning. Teachers will target lessons toward the interests of students.
A nearly $4 million grant from the Gates Foundation is paying for the program.
