ATLANTA — Resurrection, red carpet, spicy sass and a lot of soul searching in the first episode of the new season of ABC's hit drama Nashville.
While all that was going down on screen, the WSB-TV team and some local fans were getting their country on at Whitehall Tavern in Buckhead. The excitement began early with a private concert by up-and-coming country music sensation (and Atlanta resident) Kurt Thomas. Kurt did an acoustic set of original and cover songs, sharing personal anecdotes with the audience, as well as his experiences in Music City.
Kurt’s a country boy from Dahlonega, Ga. and not your stereotypical country singer. He sports a Dr. Pepper baseball cap, drinks red wine, and when he’s not performing, he’s a stay-at-home dad during the day. His wife, he quipped, is a stay-at-home mom at night. Listening to his set felt like an intimate evening at the Bluebird Café.
WSB-TV anchor Justin Farmer and meteorologist Katie Walls were on hand to welcome guests and kick off a live tweet of the Premiere under the hashtag #Nashvilleon2. Even WSB’s top brass were in attendance, taking selfies, comparing boots, talking country music, and noshing on chicken wings. A surprise appearance from Dwight Eubanks of the Real Housewives of Atlanta added some glam to the event.
But the star of the evening was on seven screens around the room. We waited all summer to get news from our friends in Nashville. Fans breathed a sigh of relief that Deacon Claybourne was alive and kicking, and questioned Bev’s makeover miss while hooked up to a ventilator the past few months. Seems Juliette picked up even more sass over the summer, while Rayna is as steady as ever. Scarlett and Gunnar can’t seem to get their timing right. Just be with Gunnar Scarlett. There. It’s settled. The doc is cute, but there are no duets there.

Will’s just as lost as ever. News flash Will, just own the gay thing. Everyone will respect you more, and if they don’t, let ‘em go. Avery scores high in the dad polls right now, let’s see if he can keep it together with a little help from his friends.
