GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE: Upon reinspection, Hibachi Express received a 96.
---------------------
A Lawrenceville restaurant has received a second failing grade upon re-inspection. This time, health inspectors gave the restaurant an even lower score.
Earlier this month, Hibachi Express on Grayson Highway received a score of 63. A week later, they scored a 46 during re-inspection.
The health department has suspended the restaurant’s permit to service food briefly while they address the most serious problems.
Violations include:
- Mold found in the mop sink and dishwashing sink
- Not washing mushrooms before preparing food
- Significantly heavy buildup of food debris and grease on equipment, walls, and floors
- Old food debris on floors, walls, and ceiling
- Not sanitizing tables properly
“That’s upsetting, because we actually really like this place, and it’s unacceptable,” said restaurant frequenter Jenn Padin.
The family who runs the business says they will have it in good shape for their third inspection next month.
“They want us to put the water and the bleach and clean the table,” said restaurant co-owner Alice Weng. She runs the restaurant with her husband.
She said they were surprised to be re-inspected in a week. Next time, she says, they will be ready for inspection within ten days of Jan. 13.
“I think this time we can pass,” said Weng.
She believes a language barrier is a factor for getting low scores. She said she is confident customers will keep coming.
“They always like that the food is fresh,” said Weng.
