ARLINGTON, Wash. - Every day for the past five years, a grandmother has been waving at children who drive by on a school bus.

Without fail, the kids can always spot the 93-year-old woman waving at them with both hands.

One day, the kids noticed the white-haired woman wasn't there. She was gone several days after that. The bus driver, Carol Mitzelfeld, asked around and found out the woman suffered a stroke.

The kids were heartbroken.

"Carol was telling us that a lot of times she doesn't remember her daughter's name, but she always remembers to wave to the kids on the bus," said seventh grader Axtin Bandewerfhorst told KING 5. "That made me feel really special."

The grandmother's name is Louise Edlen. She has 30 grand kids, 23 great-grand kids and has been married to her husband for 53 years.

Carol brought Louise a bouquet of roses, and Louise was so grateful that she left a special sign in her window to thank the kids.

Then kids sent her a photo while she was recovering in the hospital. It shows them waving from the bus waving at Louise.

Though Louise's stroke left her with partial paralysis in her throat, she managed to say that she misses them, and she's trying to get better.

She said she can't wait to return to her special spot at the window.
