DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — An instructor was taken out of the classroom after he was accused of choking a student.
“What man grabs a 16-year-old by the throat? He's a grown man," parent William Bedor said.
Bedor said he's furious about an incident he says happened last weekend at the Citadel in South Carolina. A group of 37 JROTC cadets from Lakeside High School were on a retreat when, Bedor says, his son was choked by an instructor chaperoning the students.
“If I grabbed a child by the throat I'd be in jail, so how is it that this man can grab my son by the throat and it's OK? It's not OK,” Bedor said.
Channel 2's Liz Artz stopped by the instructor's house Thursday to hear his side of the story, but no one answered the door.

Bedor told Artz he's talked to the instructor who told him he was upset because the boy entered his hotel room to ask why they were not attending a certain event.
“My son had come into the room and he shouldn't have been there," Bedor said. “My son did not touch this man that this grown man grabbed a 16-year-old by neck, period."
The Dekalb County School District sent the following statement: “An alleged incident involving a Lakeside High School JROTC instructor is currently under investigation. Due process requires that we honor the privacy of all individuals while an investigation is ongoing. Therefore, we are not in position to share more details at this time.”
Several parents contacted Channel 2 Action News in support of the instructor, saying he's always done a great job. The district says he'll be out of the classroom during the investigation.
