Johns Creek police searching for robber targeting pizza delivery drivers

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — Johns Creek police are looking for robbers who have been targeting pizza delivery drivers.

The first case happened Dec. 21 on Morton's Crossing.

"Pizza Hut delivery driver was sent to deliver pizzas," Capt. Chris Byers told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik. "They got to the house; didn't appear to be anyone home. Nobody answered the door."

Byers said when the driver walked back to his car, two men appeared with bandanas covering their faces.

"Carrying a large knife," he said. "At that point they approached him, threatened him, took the money he had with him."

About a month later, Byers said, it happened again on Camberbridge Drive.

"Right down the street a Papa John's delivery driver was delivering pizzas, encountered a house, kind of the same way," Byers said. "Dark; no one came to the door."

Byers said this time the men had guns and stole cash and pizza from the driver.

"The detectives are working the cases ... their belief is these are going to be linked, the same suspects," he said.

Petchenik tracked down one of the robbery victims, but he didn't want to talk about what happened.

The owner of the Morton's Crossing home told Petchenik she was out of town when the robbery happened and was surprised someone called the pizza order to her address.

"That's unbelievable," said the woman, who asked Petchenik not to identify her. "We've been here over 20 years and there's been a few small incidents from time to time, but nothing like that."
