Jimmy Carter Blvd. shut down near Lawrenceville Hwy.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Jimmy Carter Boulevard is shut down near Lawrenceville Highway due to a crash.

Gwinnett County police told Channel 2’s Amanda Cook a driver ran off the side of the road and slammed into a power pole, downing lines across the street.

More than 2,000 Georgia Power customers lost power initially, but that number is now down to around 800.

The driver was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, but police said her injuries are not life-threatening.

The Georgia Department of Transportation said it could as many as six hours to clean up the mess as of 6:45 a.m.

Channel 2's Triple Team Traffic suggests Rockbridge Road, Indian Trail Road or Beaver Ruin Road as alternates.

The Sunshine House preschool has been closed for the day due to lack of power.
