Herschel Walker plans restaurant at proposed gambling resort

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Former NFL legend Herschel Walker is planning to open a restaurant and sports bar at a gambling resort in the works for Gwinnett County.

Developers for the proposed Video Lottery Terminal complex made the announcement Thursday.

The $1 billion proposed development includes 7,500 video lottery terminals, a luxury hotel, spa, performance venue and dining. Walker's restaurant is the first business to sign on with the project.

"As a Georgia resident, father and businessman, I want to combine my entrepreneurial focus with my desire to sustain the HOPE scholarship and help Georgia students go to college," said Walker, a University of Georgia Heisman Trophy winner.

Developers believe if approved, the Norcross attraction would generate $350 million annually for the struggling HOPE scholarship and pre-K programs, which depend on lottery revenue. They also said the complex would create more than 2,000 jobs.

The facility still needs approval from the Georgia Lottery Board and Gwinnett County Commission.
