Hall County judge releases Katt Williams on bond

HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A grand jury indicted comedian Katt Williams on assault and drug possession charges stemming from the alleged February assault of a bodyguard.

Williams failed to meet with pre-trial services, which could have landed him back in jail. His attorney says it was a misunderstanding, because he is constantly out on the road performing.

“We understand how we’re going to handle it now and given that understanding, I would ask that the warrant be lifted and he be released on bond,” attorney Drew Findling said.

The Hall County judge agreed that despite other two arrests, Williams will be allowed out of jail on bond.

“This was not a popular decision to have you released on bond, you know,” Judge Elizabeth Reisman said. “They’re looking for any reason to put you back in that they can. Don’t give them a reason to do that.”

He had to go before a judge for that incident, too.

The court ordered him to stay away from the housing project where the fight happened.

Williams says he was there to play soccer and offer the kids words of encouragement.

“I’m not there to get anything. I was there to help the people of that depressed demographic,” he said.

He says a teen provoked him into fighting just to get it on video.

“We all saw what took place when somebody challenged him, and the rest is really a sad end to what was otherwise a beautiful day,” Findling said.

The judge bonded that case over to state court, and Williams had to pay an extra $500 to get out of jail.

Williams talked to Channel 2’s Richard Elliot about what he plans to do next.

“Do what I generally do in Hall County. Go have some vittles at the breakfast, the Biscuit Barn, and probably go out and see how the fish are biting at the lake,” he said.

Williams thanked the judge for her warning and for letting him out.

“God bless America and God bless the nice people at the bonding agency and the judge for her words that she did say,” he said.
