GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County family’s home was severely damaged after being struck by lightning on Thursday evening.
Firefighters said they were called to the 400 block of Brackin Trace in Grayson just after 6:30 p.m. after a 911 caller said lightning struck the house and flames were coming out of the attic.

Crews tried to get most of the fire in the garage and attic above the garage, but weren’t able to keep it from spreading to the upstairs of the home.
Smoke damage spread throughout the whole house.
Relatives said that the family who lives in the home was out of town, so no one was inside at the time of the fire.
They were able to help secure some of the family’s belongings.
No injuries were reported.

Areas across metro Atlanta saw intense lightning with Thursday’s storms.
Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns tracked storms throughout Channel 2 Action News at 5 and 6. A few severe thunderstorm warnings were issued as the storms moved through.
More isolated storms are in the forecast for Friday and Monday.
