Deputy arrested, charged with child molestation

Michael Lomax, 31, was arrested Wednesday and charged with child molestation.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested and charged with child molestation.

Authorities said Gwinnett County police obtained a warrant Wednesday charging 31-year-old Michael Lomax with aggravated child molestation by sodomy.

Investigators said the victim is a 13-year-old that Lomax net using a social media app. The victim’s mother reported the incident to police.

Lomax was a jailer for the Sheriff’s Office for two years. He resigned when he got to the jail.

“While I am extremely disappointed in the actions of Michael Lomax and glad to see him behind bars, I am also alarmed that minors can access social media apps of this nature and utilize them to meet strangers,” said Gwinnett County Sheriff Butch Conway. “It’s a good idea for parents to be aware of the social media apps on their kids’ phones and this is a good example of why that’s important.”
