A pile of trash has been sitting in front of the Aurora @ Twenty Seven Apartments in Lilburn for at least a week. An employee at the complex off Dickens Road told Channel 2′s Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson the issue is due to a broken trash compactor.
“I couldn’t believe the smell,” said Rachael Black, who visits the complex to see friends regularly. “It’s awful.”

Neighbors bothered by the eyesore and health concerns did not want to speak on camera citing concerns about challenging management on the record.
They said the issue has been ongoing for two weeks. Illegal dumping is also blamed for contributing to the large pile of trash next to the spot where children are picked up and dropped off for the school bus daily.

Code enforcement received a complaint last Monday and by Wednesday a citation was issued. A re-inspection was scheduled, according to county officials.
“It is overflowing and you know the rat infestation was really bad as well,” said Black.
County officials said a more severe citation could be issued if the trash is not cleared by Monday, Oct. 23.
