16-year-old charged with murder in elderly woman's death

Gwinnett County police arrested a 16-year-old boy accused of stabbing a 77-year-old woman to death Friday.
Margaret Sheffield’s body was found by her son-in-law at her home on Track Way in Dacula.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A family member of Sheffield hadn't heard from her in about 24 hours, so came to the home to check on her.

When they went inside the home, around 10:45 Friday morning, that's when they found the body of Sheffield covered in blood.

Police say she was stabbed to death by the teen.

Friday night, police arrested James Watkins for her murder.
Police say Watkins lived in the same neighborhood and knew Sheffield. They believe the motive for the murder was theft.

"During the course of the investigation our detectives have been able to interview family members, neighbors here in the community and go inside and take a preliminary view of what's going on inside this residence," Michelle Pihera with Gwinnett County Police said.

Watkins was booked into the Gainesville RYDC on felony murder, aggravated assault and burglary charges.
