State Rep. Vernon Jones to speak at Republican National Convention this week

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The long list of speakers for this week’s Republican National Convention has been released and it includes a Georgia state representative.

Georgia Democratic State Rep. Vernon Jones, who represents House District 91, will speak during the first night of the convention Monday. Jones endorsed President Donald Trump’s re-election earlier this year.

“On Monday, I look forward to addressing the Republican National Convention. This President - through all of the good he has done - has united our country. Now, it’s time for our country - on both sides of the aisle - to unite behind him,” Jones said in a tweet.

The Republican National Convention is set to have a mix of virtual, in-person and live remote events Monday through Thursday. .

Primetime keynote speeches will feature Donald Trump Jr. on Monday, First Lady Melania Trump on Tuesday and Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday before President Donald Trump accept the nomination Thursday night.

Each night has a different theme. Here is the schedule:

Monday: "A Land of Heroes"

Trump and Pence will be formally nominated Monday night. The event will be attended by six delegates from each state and territory.

Tuesday: "Land of Promise"

First lady Melania Trump will give a speech from the White House Rose Garden in Washington, D.C.

Wednesday: "Land of Opportunity"

Pence will give his acceptance speck from Fort McHenry National Park in Baltimore, Maryland.

Thursday: "Land of Greatness"

Trump will deliver his acceptance speech from the White House lawn, the first time that a Republican nominee has not accepted the nomination in person at the convention venue since 1936.
