Republican National Convention: GOP gets its turn beginning Monday

The Republican National Convention is set to begin Monday, with a mix of virtual, in-person and live remote events.

President Donald Trump has announced that he will accept the nomination of his party at the White House on Thursday. According to some media accounts, the president has invited members of Congress to attend the outdoor ceremony.

Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will be able to listen to an in-person roll call of states on Monday to hear their names officially placed into nomination as their party's representatives.

The four days will see first lady Melania Trump speaking, along with Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, California.

Andrew Pollack, whose daughter was killed during the Parkland shooting, has been asked to speak, as was Covington Catholic High School student Nick Sandmann, who sued and settled suits against The Washington Post and CNN over coverage of a 2019 encounter with a Native American elder at an anti-abortion rally.

The convention is set to stream from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET daily Monday through Thursday, however, the schedule may be changed from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET, Republican officials said this week.

Here are the themes for each night:

Monday: "A Land of Heroes"

Trump and Pence will be formally nominated Monday night. The event will be attended by six delegates from each state and territory.

Tuesday: "Land of Promise"

First lady Melania Trump will give a speech from the White House Rose Garden in Washington, D.C.

Wednesday: "Land of Opportunity"

Pence will give his acceptance speck from Fort McHenry National Park in Baltimore, Maryland.

Thursday: "Land of Greatness"

Trump will deliver his acceptance speech from the White House lawn, the first time that a Republican nominee has not accepted the nomination in person at the convention venue since 1936.
